The Show Will Go On! Reopening Appeal
Posted on: 6th October, 2020
Theatre Royal Bury St Edmunds launched their emergency reopening appeal, The Show Will Go On! in June 2020. With the estimated losses from lack of tickets sales between up to September 2020 was estimated to be in the region of £300,000 they set the appeal target at £50,000 to help plug the gap.
With support from celebrity patrons such as Gyles Brandreth, Dame Judi Dench, Sir Derek Jacobi, Bill Nighy, Libby Purves, Robert Glenister and Armando Iannucci the appeal got off to a great start.
The appeal not only achieved, but exceeded its target and stands at over £70,000 which is just incredible.
Owen Calvert-Lyons, CEO/Artistic Director is over-whelmed. ‘We were delighted to have reached our £50,000 target in just 4 weeks and to achieve over £70,000 is staggering. This really is vital money to help us to survive the devastating impact of the coronavirus. I want to thank the people from all across our community who donated, including a whole raft of businesses, sponsors, patrons and supporters. I particularly want to thank the local community arts organisations such as Suffolk Young Peoples Theatre, BSEODS and The Irving Stage Company who members generously contributed to our fund. Every section of our society has been financially impacted by this virus; that people still find the money to help us to survive demonstrates how important Theatre Royal is to our community.’
With the theatre still closed until at least Spring 2021 the theatre still need your help. To donate click here.
