My Work Experience Week

Posted on: 5th August, 2016

This week has been a real eye opener. As a semi-regular theatre goer I have never even contemplated how much hard work goes in behind the scenes of every production at The Theatre Royal Bury St Edmunds. I started my week with a tour of the theatre (yes, I got to go back stage and see all the dressing rooms and the mysterious well under the stage). As well as this I got the chance to learn how their system works and the types of marketing strategies they use that make the theatre so successful.

As well as learning about all the seriously techy things that happen I was also given tasks such as doing the direct mail order, distributing leaflets in Bury and colouring in underpants ready for the ‘Aliens Love Underpants’ production due to start on the 23rd August.

As a Business Management and Marketing student this week has allowed me to put the theory that I have learnt into real life context, something which in invaluable for me and will greatly aid me throughout the rest of my course. I would like to thank the whole of the Theatre admin staff for making me feel so welcome and in particular the marketing department for allowing me to be part of their team this week, you are a great bunch of people and the theatre is lucky to have you. I hope our paths will cross again in the future!
