An Introduction to Directing for Young People with Owen Calvert-Lyons

Friday 5th April

  • Description

Join our Artistic Director and CEO, Owen Calvert-Lyons, as he gives an insight into his process and techniques when directing Theatre Royal Bury St Edmunds productions.

Throughout this workshop, Owen will take you through his different processes when approaching a new production, exploring how he goes from the initial script to the final performance. This workshop will also allow participants to ask questions on how they can get into directing and learn from Owen about how they can also become directors.

Owen Calvert-Lyons worked as the Head of Theatre at Ovalhouse in South East London before he headed to Theatre Roya, Bury St Edmunds. Having worked as an artistic director at other venues, Owen is excited about work that takes place outside of traditional theatre spaces.

Owen’s Credits for Theatre Royal include: Snow White (2023/2024), The Wonderful Wizard of Oz (2023), The Children (2023), The Legend of Robin Hood (2022/2023), The Secret Garden (2022), Home, I’m Darling (2022), Cinderella (2021/2022), Holes (2021), Around the World in Eighty Days (2021), and A Christmas Carol (2020).

Further Credits: Murder in Play (ACT); Random Selfies (Ovalhouse); Boy with a Suitcase (Arcola Theatre).
