In House productions

We are a proud producing house, committed to staging powerful and important plays, which help us to understand the world around us.

We work with some of the UK’s best talent to create distinctive, beautifully-staged productions. Past productions include Shirley Valentine (2020), A Christmas Carol (2020), Around the World in Eighty Days (2021), and Home, I’m Darling (2022). Our annual community productions (Goodnight Mister Tom (2018), Pride and Prejudice (2019), Holes (2021), and The Secret Garden (2022)), provide unique opportunities for local children and young people to perform alongside professional actors in high-quality productions. Our in-house pantomime is legendary, attracting 25,000 audiences each year and delighting generations of theatergoers.

In 2023, we’re looking forward to producing another three in-house shows: The Children (10 – 25 March), The Wonderful Wizard of Oz (18 Aug – 2 Sept) and Snow White (24 Nov – 14 Jan 2024). The Children by Lucy Kirkwood was rated number 2 in the Guardian’s ‘Top Play of the 21st Century’. Directed by Owen Calvert-Lyons and produced by Zoe Fox, The Children is a thrilling piece of new writing about relationships and generational responsibility after a local disaster with Imogen Stubbs, Gillian Bevan and Michael Higgs.

With 20% of all casting drawn from our region, we are proud to support talent from Suffolk and East Anglia, ensuring that we support our regional arts ecology. Theatre Royal plays a vital role in supporting freelance artists to live and work in Suffolk and the local area.

Our Spring production is available to tour each year. If you are interested in bringing a TRBSE production to your venue, please get in touch with Zoe Fox at zoe@theatreroyal.org.
